You may have read about how we were shopping for a minivan. Well, here she is! What do you think?
We went with the 2005 Kia Sedona, mostly because of the safety ratings but there are lots of other things I like about it too.
The Kia has bunches of get up and go. I find myself keeping up with traffic easily and in Calgary – that is a huge must. I also love the faux wood panels around the CD player and window control buttons on the doors….so classy hahaha. It came with a remote starter which I will adore when it is -40 next winter and it has back up sensors so I won’t back into anything.
I have great visibility and sitting up higher gives me a sense of ‘all knowingness’. The Pontiac Grand Am I left behind had so many blind spots, I never really felt confident that I was seeing all I needed to. And the Kia was affordable which was the most important feature for us.
Here is the view from the trunk.
And little H’s new seat.
She got a brand new Britax Marathon with a flower pattern seat cover. She’s riding in style. I was happy to get a girlie print on the seat as we bought the other one in basic grey….we bought it before we knew she was going to be a girl. The grey one will stay in hubbies car.
The only thing I don’t like about it is the weak stereo system. I might as well put an old fashioned, D-cell powered, Ghetto blaster on the dash board. I mean, come on. Just cause I’m a Mommie in a Minivan doesn’t mean I don’t want to Rock On. Cause I do. There isn’t any Rafi or Wiggles happening on our stereo. Little H prefers Led Zeppelin thank you very much.
We are taking our first Kia powered road trip up to Drumheller tomorrow. The inlaws are here so we will have four adults plus little H riding inside. This was not possible in my old car. Middle of nowhere Alberta, here we come!

Ooh, I like it, Heather! Were you planning on buying used all along? My husband is trying to convince me to go for used rather than new, but I’m reluctant. It looks soooo roomy!
We also avoided the Wiggles et al like the plague. Glad to hear your little girl has such great taste. Rock on!
rocking on in a minivan! Ok, maybe you could do it. I couldn’t manage. LOL.
Sharon – well, we went with used as that is what the budget allows but they say it is the smart thing to do…..let someone else pay that depreciation that occurs once it goes off the lot.
Charles – I like to believe that the Rock on spirit lives within me…as opposed to within my mode of transportation. You have the Rock on spirit too. You’d rock on wherever you are
LOL.
I’m jealous! Even though I swore I’d never own a minivan, it sure would be nice to have that kind of room.
I’ve driven around middle of nowhere Alberta lots of times, too!
In fact, I drive through a lot of middle of nowhere Canada whenever I drive from Alaska to my home state of Michigan.
You are right on the get up and go factor. Comes in very handy in mountain-y terrain : )
Yep, this will probably be our next car! I hope they drive as well as they look! lol
And a remote starter? Are you kiddin me? I totally need one of those!
