“A new idea is delicate. It can be killed by a sneer or a yawn; it can be stabbed to death by a quip and worried to death by a frown on the right man’s brow.” — Charles Brower
Today’s Muse is a simple reminder to protect your ideas, as you would protect your children.
The quote speaks to how fragile ideas can be squashed by other people. Hang on to your ideas and share them when there is a vision behind them so that others can believe in them too. Write them down. Think about them. Cherish them because even if they are nothing more than an idea…another idea may spawn from the first and another and another until you end up with something you wouldn’t wish to be without.

That’s so very true and so very hard to do. I get all excited when I have a great idea and feel the need to tell everyone. Countless times an idea has been
squashed by someone who I felt knew best for me.
If I let people determine my path, I might as well hand over my life. I’ve also done it to myself, in such a hurry for the outcome that I’ve forcefed the idea to oblivion.
I goofed on the linky link up-titled it with the wrong link! Sorry!
I do agree, it’s so easy for a new idea to loose steam if it’s broadcast to early. Thankfully my hubby is a safe net. He’ll listen to any idea-no matter how ridiculous-and give me tons of support, cheering me to keep going with it. Usually I figure out whether it’s a good idea or not after talking with him, sketching it out, and thinking about it a little more.
Sometimes it’s the practicality of doing it, timing or even an economic issue. Just because it’s not right for this moment, doesn’t mean it’ll NEVER be right! I like to go back to my idea journal often…just in case!
I’ve had to learn this one – countless times I’ve shown something I was proud of to someone only to have them say “uh-huh, sure, that’s nice” when I was hoping for “wow! original! gorgeous!” What I’ve learned is that not everyone has the same taste as I do, and sometimes, I’m excited about a piece because I’ve mastered a new technique, or because I finally found a use for a material that’s been sitting around my studio, and not necessarily because the thing I’ve made would look great to wear on date night. It doesn’t mean the idea wasn’t good, or that whatever it was that excited me about it was silly, just that not everyone is going to appreciate it.
Very true. I don’t know about you, but if I am not careful I can do damage just imagining what others might say…..I find it is best to just keep plugging along & do my own thing, my way (even if it isn’t at my pace)
Protecting our ideas is so important. I am in the process of writing some of my plans/ideas now and will be adding them to my vision board.
BTW: Did you ever do your vision board?
