PR Blackout Kickoff

Today is the first day of MomDot’s PR Blackout Challenge. I’m happily participating and would like to take a moment to explain why I’m going to take part, and what I hope to accomplish this week.

1)  Why I’m participating

If you’ve been a regular reader since the beginnings of Maternal Spark you’ll know that I used to do a lot of giveaways.  One a week almost.  I also featured one Creative Mom a week. While I loved putting the spotlight on other creative moms (and I still do feature other moms here) I felt it was difficult to keep up and still post interesting and original content.

I’ve done some posts that originated from Public Relations professionals as well.  Some of them were wonderful additions to the blog and some were not. The simple reason I’m participating in the PR Blackout is to reign in the focus and take some time to connect with myself and my readers.

2) What I’ll be posting about instead

I thought it would be fun to put a theme of sorts in place this week.  In a bit of a  play on words with the blackout, I’ll post all things “In the Dark.”   I’ll write about things that go bump (or smash) in the night.  Things that took place in dark times and I might even throw in a poem or other piece of creative writing.

3) What about Monday’s Muse?

Since we’re changing things up, I’d like to extend Monday’s Muse to last all week.  The PR Blackout has inspired my creativity and I hope reading about it has also inspired you.  I hope you’ll turn inward.  To think about your voice.  To think about your goals and to pull it all together for a week of unique content.  What do you want to accomplish with your blog?  I’ll leave the linky up (if I can get the damn thing to work) all week and you’re welcome to share your posts here as you write them.

sounds like fun! And the PR blackout – what can I say – as a blogger who doesn’t do any PR (yet?)and is kinda intimidated by the whole thing, it sounds very inviting. I’ll try to post something this week for MM :)

Great idea! PR is good, but quality content will keep readers interested and wanting to come back. I love interviews with creative people and the occasional review, but mostly I read blogs that write about things I find interesting.
