Hello my friends! I hope you’ve had a great weekend and are ready to tackle your week head on. Recently I was contacted by Holly who introduced me to her client Whitney Ferré. Whitney is the author and creator of The Artist Within: A Guide to Becoming Creatively Fit. I’m going to be talking a bit about her book in the future but for now, she’s offered to share her short series with us and I’m pleased to be able to offer them for you! I’ll post one a day all week long. You might want to make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss them.
7 Steps to Opening the Door to your Artist Within
Step #1
written by Whitney Ferré.
Create awareness of the difference between your left & right brain voices, their strengths and weaknesses.
Here is the first amazing thing: your left brain voice is coming from your ego and your right brain voice is coming from your spirit that is connected to everything.
Ego is good because it keeps us safe, it enables us to learn from our past experience and take action to plan for the future. This is a good thing. All alone, in an unbalanced mind, however, it can create feelings of “paddling upstream” or “me against the world” or “nothing works for me”. It does not recognize that you are connected to the larger human family and the energy that is constantly circulating amongst us.
Your right brain voice balances the left brain voice. It says things (if you recognize it) like “I trust that I will be provided what I need” or “the right person will come along to help me” or “no matter what, I believe that I will achieve my dreams”. It is the Bob Marley voice, “don’t worry, be happy”.
Your left brain voice will keep you well stocked and sheltered on your own little island. Your right brain voice will recognize the support and help that surrounds you (once your ego stops making you feel inferior for not having all the answers).
The goal is to have both voices contributing to your conscious. In this left brain world, without the awareness of the value of BOTH voices and how they compliment each other, your knee-jerk reaction to most situations is going to come from your left hemisphere. Sometimes when I start getting anxious or frustrated I call my ego out. As soon as I say, “Ego, ego, ego…” my awareness shifts. I become aware of the choice I am making to interpret a situation from my ego. When I shift to my right brain voice, I am instantly more understanding, humbled and open to creating a positive situation. Think of conflict with family, colleagues, or friends. If you took ego out of the equation would it be different? You bet!
In the next post, I will share easy, fun and simple ways to get into your right hemisphere and strengthen your right brain voice.
Oh! And share your link if you’ve written something creative ![]()
