Enough with the Whine, Bring on the Wine! Week 10

thanks to Rhea for the awesome graphic!

Can you believe it’s been 10 weeks? 10 weeks of wine reviews with my lovely and always amusing cohorts Rhea and Cheryl.  I’m so pleased with how this series has been going I’d like to see it continue for many more weeks but I’m curious how you, my readers, are enjoying the posts…if it so moves you, leave a comment and let us know if we’ve been doing ok with it – or if there’s something you’d like to see specifically please tell us and we’ll do our best to oblige you.

This week I wanted to review a Canadian wine, because we have many wonderful wineries here in Canada – many of which are from the Okanagan as is this bottle of Red Rooster Riesling I’m

sampling right now.  Since purchasing this bottle I’ve learned that the winery has a huge statue of a naked guy on their front lawn.  Really now, is that not the sign of a bunch of people who really enjoy their wine?  Can you imagine that conversation?

“yeah, we need to put some decorations out on the lawn…”

“you mean like gnomes?”

“No way…too boring!”

“How about a naked guy?”

“Word, let’s do it.”

Nudity aside, I’m drinking a 2009 Riesling and am really enjoying it.  It’s far from gnome boring with it’s pineapple, orange and peach notes and banana nose. (Banana nose…haha…) it would be perfect with a teriyaki chicken or a citrus glazed fish.

Red Rooster is located outside Penticton BC and they have a wine club that sounds like a pretty good value.  I paid $18.95 for my bottle which is at the high end of my self imposed $20 limit but for my money I got a great bottle of vino.  I’d like to try more from Red Rooster specifically the Gewürztraminer. I love me a good Gewurz!

  1. mmmm…I love me some banana nose. hahah We really are very funny.

I think I like Riesling, isn’t it a bit on the sweeter side? Sounds good to me.

  2. When I was in university, we got this HUGE snow storm (obviously not uncommon for the eastern side of Canada). I was a senior residence advisor that year and a bunch of students got together and made a snow penis. It was 6 feet all and very “Real” looking, if you will. They then decided to make some snow boobs afterwards. Unfortunately my boss told me to take it down. I felt a little dirty touching that penis…. Oh i’m WAY off topic. Um, I don’t like reds, but I like the idea of a banana nose!

  3. You lost me at banana nose after mentioning a naked guy. Yes, my humor is base. I live with all boys after all.
