Giving back

Our days are busy and by the end of them it’s time to sink into the couch and turn on the tube. I’m tired. We all are. Making time for extra things is super hard but we try to remember to give back. We aren’t in the position to donate large amounts of time right now, as much as I would like to. Instead we look for little ways to help out. We donate unwanted household items to the local thrift shop. We buy Girl Guide cookies. We have our kids participate in fundraising activities at school. Little things that we can squeeze in here and there throughout the year do make a difference – especially when the entire community gets involved.

One of the reasons I jumped at the chance to be a #teamtelus member is that TELUS makes giving back a part of their corporate culture. It’s scheduled in over the course of the year, they have specific opportunities set up for employees to get involved too. They sure do get involved, let me tell you. I’ve had first hand experience being included in their Give where we live activities.

We volunteered at the Calgary Food Bank in 2014 for the TELUS Day of Giving. In 2013 we planted spring flowers and pulled weeds and tidied the grounds at Ronald McDonald House.

This year, TELUS is helping me do even more for my local community and with their help $500 is going to the Boys and Girls Club here in Cochrane where I live. The Boys and Girls Club provide safe, care and support for kids after school. They are an extremely important part of the community and I know they’ll put this money to good use for those who use their services here at home. If you can spare a moment to volunteer with a local organization or even give a small donation – together we can make a big difference.

In 2015 alone, TELUS, team members and retirees contributed more than $43.98 million and volunteered over 830,000 hours of service in communities in Canada and internationally. When we all do a little, it adds up to a lot! These are people with full time jobs, families and after school activities but they make it a part of their year to take an afternoon to give back. I love SO MUCH that I have had the opportunity to be involved!

If you would like to know more about how TELUS works with communities across Canada or to request a grant for a charity you’re involved with see the Community Partnerships website. Thanks to #teamtelus for all you do here at home and across the country.
