I hope you enjoyed this free Crochet Pattern! Make sets and sets of these heart shaped crochet face scrubbies for all the teen and tween loves in your life. They make an awesome Valentines day gift!
These instructions are hard to understand. If followed exactly, it makes a crooked heart. The stitch count never came up to what you described
I wish I could see how you are working these up. I’ve made many of these in this manner without problem. Feel free to modify the pattern in a way that suits you best!
So cute! So if I were making the box, how would I build up the sides? Just HDC rows around the perimeter? Did you do something different?
Round 4 of the pattern is for making the box. So yes, if you’re making a scrubby, you’d stop. If you’re making the box then work the HDC stitches as instructed. I hope you enjoy the pattern!
Hello Heather, I guess I’m a Beginner/Intermediate and I crochet mainly for charity now that I have a little more time on my hands. I really struggle with written patterns at times and feel quite dumb when I can’t get a pattern to work. Desperately wanted to do your heart shaped Scrubbies in their container to put in Shoe Boxes. ( Boxes that are packed with toiletries and small items that are sent to the women in drought affected areas in Australia.) I thought the hearts would just be a little symbol to let them know someone, somewhere is thinking of them. I am determined person so I’m not going to give up. In Round 1 the pattern says (14 stitches plus the two chains for 18 in total?????). Then in Round 2 at the very end the Pattern says 2 dc in next stitch, 3dc, 3dc. 2 sc. in chain space. I’m guessing this means 2dc in next stitch, 3 dc in next two stitches. 2sc in chain space or 3dc, 3dc, 2sc in next 3 stitches. I don’t want to seem mean or over critical but I often wonder if pattern writers actually crochet stitch by stitch from their written pattern rather than the pattern in their brain. After persevering for a number of hours I now have a heart (sort of).
Hi Judy! Yes, I have made many of these from my pattern however I am remiss in counting at the end of rounds and just follow the stitch instructions. There was an error in the count which I have updated. Thanks for persevering and leaving this note. When I speak of the ‘chain space’ I’m referring to the chain in the previous round. I know it’s difficult because pattern writers often mean different things and I get confused as well. But yes, typically when you see stitches with commas in between (2dc, 2dc, etc etc) it means they are ‘per stitch.’ and when you see 2dc in next stitch it means to do both the dc in the same stitch with the comma denoting you move to the next one for the next stitch. Gah, I can hardly keep it straight in my explanation!
If everybody is having issues with this pattern, i found when i did different heart patterns meant for acryluc yarn, just take one of those heart pattern’s and use cotton yarn instead. This by the way works.
But if you want to do this pattern, try on acrylic yarn first, as a promo n then make them out of cotton. . Then take that heart pattern n make one additional round using sc around the heart to make th box. Meaning: after you finish the heart as written, sc around to give you a solid n defined base. Working in back loop only, hdc around. Use a marker on 1st hdc so u know where start n sto is. I did this n I started at the bottom point so I wasn’t confused. Build your box up. Ss to join when u have the height u want. Do this to a lid section if you are making a lid.
Only difference extend the sc round out 1 more row (so the lid will cover the box). My email address is randineff2@gmail.com
I always try new patterns out n change things to make them my own patterns. My twist makes these patterns unique to me.
Hi there. I am having the same problem as a few others. A crooked heart. Would it be possible for you to make a video for us?
I’ve never made a video before but will consider how to go about it 🙂
Thank you for the lovely hearts. I have made 3 so far and going to make more to send to friends as we are still in lockdown in the uk. Mine have come out perfectly apart from adding an extra sc in last round before I get to the bottom of heart all has gone well. Sometimes I think our brains work differently in understanding things but just so you know that there is someone out there that thinks in the same way as you do. ? thanks Suzy
Thank you so much for your kind comment – I agree we all do think differently and we are all taught to crochet by people who have learned differently as well! Translating it into instructions isn’t easy. I’m glad you’re having success!
Hi, I have just worked up 3 hearts and the box, they all just worked up great for, I did have to add an extra dc on the sides, making 5 dc in st, then 4 sc. It worked out quiet nice, and hope my son’s teachers like them as gifts. Thank You for sharing your pattern.
Thanks for your comment Sharon!
Thank you so much for this lovely and helpful tutorial! I always need a little practice with new patterns, but got a hang of this one pretty quickly! Making a few sets of scrubbies w/ boxes for ‘galentines’ day gifts.
Happy ‘Galentines’ to you and your gals!
