This is the second post in my series on Backyard Entertaining with Lowe’s. If you missed it, you can find post #1 HERE. Thanks for reading along!
Okay, enough teasing, here is where I talk about which fireplace I chose and my thought process as to why I picked that one. I’ll also show you how to set up an instant, temporary patio so you can entertain anywhere in your yard! Flexibility is important for me because I really like to maximize budgets and minimize clutter. I love to be able to move things around when different circumstances call for it and if I feel like my decisions are set in stone then I get anxious about making commitments. I don’t like that, it means that things stay un-decorated and we can’t have that!
Okay, the fireplace. I chose the gorgeous copper wood burning one. Did you have any doubts about where my love landed? I couldn’t leave the copper behind! Of course, half of Alberta has been on fire since I bought it and there’s been a non-stop fire ban and so I haven’t been able to burn it yet. It’s a small price to pay for safety and it hasn’t stopped me from admiring it every time it comes into my view. My brilliant friend Merry told me that you can get kits for retrofitting them to propane so I might just do that in the future and then BAM, best of both worlds!
I don’t know if you saw my last post but we have big news that we’ll be moving soon. We will have half of the summer here in our current home and then half of the summer at our new home in Fort St. John BC. I don’t want to miss out on enjoying our outside spaces just because we won’t be here all summer so I’ve made an instant and temporary patio that can be put up and taken down in just a few minutes. It’s easy to set up when you need it and put it away when you’re finished! Flexibility is what it’s all about for us right now. We’ll have a new set up in the next house so things will be reworked for that space later on.
What you Need:
Outdoor Area Rug – I chose this smart and neutral Navy number – it was only $89 for a 5×7!
Cork Tiles – I bought two packs of these guys.
Plastic Runners – I used two of these for protecting the lawn
What you Do:
Lay out your plastic runners where you want to place your furniture. Then, lay the cork on top of those. The runners will keep the legs of your furniture from puncturing the lawn and the cork will help distribute weight evenly. You can fiddle with the cork to help flatten out your patio. If you have a divot in the surface of the lawn that your chair is wobbling in then place the cork tile there to allow your chair a flat surface to sit upon.
When you are comfortable with your patio surface, cover it over with your outdoor area rug and there you go! Instant patio!
NOTE: To avoid damaging the grass, leave your patio in place for no more than 48 hours. Your lawn needs access to sunshine and fresh air to stay healthy and green. But that’s the beauty of this quick and easy pop up patio. Set it up, take it down. It can happen quickly over and over all summer as you need it for entertaining in your backyard!
You will need a relatively flat surface for this to work well but the cork will help a lot for keeping your chairs stable.
I’m dying to show you my finished backyard patio but that comes in the next post! I’ll just share a peek at one of my unexpected favourite pieces. This Super with a capital S, cute candle lantern! It was only $19.99 and I popped an LED candle into it. I regret only buying one. I think I need to go back and get a couple more. I love the pop of colour they give but they aren’t heavy or busy to look at. They’re light and fun and provide some ambiance when the sun starts to set. I chose red because they go well with the wire organizer on the inspiration mason jars from my first post.
There we go! Stay tuned for the big reveal as that’s coming up soon!
I’m on the #lovelowes team this spring and am receiving product to facilitate this series of posts. As always, my opinions are my own.
