Please obey all current public health orders when shopping in person
When we moved back to the Calgary area one of the first things I wanted to add back into our home was plants. I hated how lifeless and drab the house felt without them so I went out in search of what I needed. This lead me to some fantastic places for plants in Calgary! I had so much fun exploring and realized that you might be looking for new house plants too.
To ensure everyone can find planty treasures, I put together this map and if you scroll down, you’ll find links to each shop’s website and social pages too. I do realize that there are shops that aren’t on this list but tried to keep it to places I’d been and could recommend.
Let’s start our quest for plants in the Calgary area in the West shall we? The town of Cochrane is about 15 min west of Calgary and it’s cute as a button. If you have time, spend some of it in their two plant shops and then head for ice cream in historic downtown.
Anything Grows – 209 River Ave Cochrane

Anything Grows is a full service garden center that has been around for over 20 years. They are open 7 days a week from 9.30am – 6pm. I have been here many, Many. SO MANY times and it has always been a great experience. The staff know what they’re talking about and will be able to offer suggestions on what will suit you best. Not only can you buy plants here but you’ll also find all the gear and accessories you’ll need too.
The Plant Place – 324, 3rd St W Cochrane
I absolutely love this shop! They always have a great selection of interesting and in demand houseplants but they also carry handmade and locally created gift items. You’ll find plenty of ceramic and terracotta plant pots as well as succulent terrarium supplies. Small but mighty. The Plant Place is a must stop on this list.
Blue Grass Garden Center – 260130B Writing Creek Crescent, Rocky View County
Blue Grass is a larger landscaping chain with locations in Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton but don’t let that fool you. I know, visiting their website doesn’t make you feel like it’s a houseplant mecca, but you’d be wrong to cross it off your list. They carry a nice variety of plants from cactus to hoya and more. They also carry a large selection of pots and garden decor. It’s worth a visit as the staff is great at answering questions and willing to point you towards plant success.
Golden Acres Garden Center – 620 Goddard Ave NE
Calgary

Of all the large garden centers in Calgary – this one is my favourite. One reason is because of the central location but mostly I love Golden Acres because it’s like going on a mini vacation and we all need one of those from time to time, don’t you think? My kids love visiting here because there are birds flying around singing and bathing in the fountains AND you are allowed to bring your dog here. My kids love seeing dogs on shopping trips. All of that aside, it’s a great place to find plants in Calgary. They are always stocked up well and have a large variety from small table top plants to huge statement trees. If it’s plant related, you’ll find it here.
Plantation Garden Center – 2408 4th St NW Calgary
This is a lovely little city center plant shop. My daughter and I stumbled upon it unexpectedly one day and decided to go in and I’m so glad we did! It’s one of those places with a mom and pop feel (in a good way!) and there is plenty to look at and marvel over. They aren’t super active on social media and don’t offer online shopping so your best bet is to pop in.
Plant – 1327 9th Ave Calgary
It’s a hot day. You’re in Calgary’s Inglewood neighbourhood and you grab an iced coffee and wander down 9th ave. You come across an oasis with bees buzzing flowers in the court yard and the huge door thrown open, beckoning you to enter a lush jungle. You’ve found Plant. Not only is it a wonderful place to find houseplants, it’s an experience. Pet the dog, browse the quirky merch and get your new plant potted up.
Cobblestone Garden Center – 10300 17th Ave SE Calgary

I was excited to see the nice variety of plants Cobblestone had available, they really do have something for every gardener here from lush tropical flowering plants like hibiscus to ferns to philodendrons, Cobblestone can get your houseplant game sorted. Staff was very friendly and helpful and they will also have everything you need for your outdoor garden too. While I was there someone was potting up dozens of wee tomato seedlings that looked incredibly healthy and ready to get going in your planters. Cobblestone is definitely worth a visit.
Greengate Garden Center – 14111 Macleod Tr. South Calgary
Greengate is another must see stop on the plant hunt treasure map. They have everything. Their plants are well looked after and good quality. They have knowledgeable staff and all the gear to get you growing. I can never find the place without utilizing google maps because it’s tucked away sort of behind Macleod trail but Google will get you there. Parking is easy and there is always plenty to see so spend a bit of time browsing.
Spruce it Up Garden Center – 159 210 Ave SW Calgary

Spruce it Up is a loooong way away from me so I don’t go in there often but when I do I am always glad I made the trip. They stand behind their plants and will help you get exactly what you need. This is another landscape focused company that, upon landing on their website, you might not think ‘houseplants’ but trust me, they carry them! And they have all the pots and fertilizer and other gear you’ll need too, like pretty decor (above) If you’re in the far south, pay them a visit.
Plant it Modern – 64070 338 Ave E Foothills County

Oh you guys, I know this is a pretty far jaunt outside the city but it is worth your time to visit Plant it Modern. They offer imported, harder to find plants here and you are sure to find a treasure you won’t find anywhere else in store. They have a fantastic selection of plants from monstera deliciosa and snake plants to unusual hoya and alocasia. I picked up an alocasia silver dragon and while it was not inexpensive, I’m super happy with this beautiful and exotic plant! If you’re looking for rare plants in Calgary, you’ll want Plant it Modern on your radar.
Okay! There are 10 must see places for plants in Calgary! Take a weekend and do the tour! I’m so looking forward to springtime and better weather and (safe!) plant shopping. Be sure to follow all health advice, wear your mask and use your sanitizer but most of all, enjoy the hunt for plants and the pursuit of your jungle.
I do know there are other plant shops in the area so if you have one to recommend please do leave details about the shop and your experience in the comments.
