Thanksgiving couldn’t go by without a bit of pomp and circumstance. There has never been one like it and I hope beyond hope that there never will be one like it ever again in my lifetime – or the lifetime of my children. Still, there is much to be thankful for and as such, I jumped at the chance to do a little home tour with my favourite group – the Creative Vintage Darlings.

My fall decor isn’t all that different from my summer decor. I’m not huge on seasonal decorating but there are a few things I do to make things feel a little cozier. I wanted to keep our space simple – very simple because #1 – I don’t want to run all over town for things that aren’t necessity and #2 – we are doing what we can to keep spending to a minimum.

I bought four things specifically for our fall living room and they are:
1 – The linen table runner on the coffee table. There’s a lot of wood surfaces in our living room which I love – they’re so cozy. But it was nice to bring in a bit of texture and layering with a thrifted runner. It was $10.
2 – A scented candle. I tried out a Spiced Cider scent this season and it’s lovely! It was $14.
3 – I have a glass terrarium that I really wanted to use as it’s contemporary and when you have mostly vintage items, adding something from the current decade really helps that eclectic vibe emerge. It was empty so I bought new house plants for it. I bought 2 plants at $5 ea for a total of $10
4 – I added some dollar store foliage in the crocks with some pinecones I already had. I bought 5 sprigs at $2 ea for a total of $10.
Total spent for the season: $44

Here’s a better look at the linen. I layered a crochet doily over it for a bit more texture and a pop of colour – you can see it to the left of the book. This season, I put away my ceramic birds as I always do and when I thought about what I wanted to use in their place I decided books were the exact right thing. They lend so much texture and interest and I always feel cozy with them around. I had to laugh because I also found my stash of vintage ceramic turkeys. Those had to be featured. I guess I essentially traded budgies and flamingos for turkeys haha.

I think this flock of turkeys is hilarious. I have picked them up over the years for virtually nothing in thrift shops and they always make me smile.

On the mantel are a few pretty things – all vintage. Because the fireplace surround is clean, contemporary marble, having so much vintage doesn’t feel stuffy. The greenery and plants in the space give it so much life and we have a lot of light coming in the windows. Here’s a closer look a the arrangements on either side of the fireplace.

Plant corner is much the same but I moved things around a little so I could layer in more books. Have a look at how it has evolved and see how I decorate with plants.

The acorns on the mantel are only temporary. When it’s time for Christmas they’ll move to the tree and we will put something else in their place. My dad brought me the acorns when he found a handful on a trip. I made them into baubles and I think they are simple yet warm and symbolic of all that we have to be thankful for.

Another thing I’m thankful for? That this tour doesn’t end here! Go visit the other Creative Vintage Darlings and see what they’re up to for Thanksgiving as well!

I’m jealous of your light, bright room; my living room is a beast to photograph:( Always love to see your typewriters and clocks mixed in with all the plants; your boho vibe is awesome:) That card catalog…I’m so green. I need a vintage furniture piece in my life with a bank of drawers/cubbies…maybe need to go hunting;) Fun hopping with you, Heather!
Our last home was pretty dark – I know the struggle! I’m so grateful for all the light that comes in and so are my plants. Thanks so much for visiting Lora!
It all looks so beautiful! I love the turkeys!

The turkeys are my favourite haha
Oh my goodness, I literally could spend hours looking at all the beautiful vintage you have! That linen runner is dreamy, I thought the doily was actually a part of the runner… what a great match! This is my kind of Fall tour, I love everything!
Thanks so much Laurie!
Heather, this is gorgeous! The teeny little acorns, the turkeys, that typewriter- it’s just simple and perfectly fall. And the plants. You are the queen of plants.
