* disclosure – flowers were supplied by The Flower Hut FSJ
As I write this our first snow is slowly melting here in Northern BC. On one hand I’m clinging to summer and it’s last bits of warmth and colour – on the other, I’m ready to cozy up inside with a warm mug of pour over coffee and the Canadian Bloggers Fall Home Tour which is running this week. They are making me feel a lot better about the cold and I’m so happy to be sharing my fall home today! Be sure to see the rest of the homes on tour – they’re all linked at the end of this post.

Let’s start in the dining room. I’ve set the table for fall and one of my key inspirations this season has been colour and tone. Over the summer things were light and cheery with vintage blues and greens. Some of those are still kicking about (hello jadeite in the china cabinet!) and I’ve changed some decor items out for darker charcoals and blacks. I’m loving the depth of these darker tones – they’re so grounding. For colour I’m having a major moment with mustard yellow and deeper greens.

Of course, let’s not forget our vintage brass! There are articles written every year about which metals are in and which are out but these vintage brass items stand the test of time, I’ll never bore of them and they do well in mixing with other metals which is always my favourite way to go for an eclectic feel.

I usually keep things pretty simple when it comes to table decor because I often find a certain fuzzy someone napping there, but it’s fun to do up the table now and then. Most items are thrifted / vintage here except for the runner which I sewed up from a luxe green velvet. The colour combo with brass and mustard is just rocking my socks!

Speaking of mustard, you may have heard me whinging on social about my upholstery project that was going awry. I’m no newbie when it comes to recovering chairs but this sure made me feel like one! The foam had turned to dust and the staples wouldn’t sink into the hardwood. I ended up pretty much doing these over from scratch with a plywood seat instead of strapping, new foam and new….everything! All the work paid off because these $25 Craigslist chairs are hitting the mark for me yet again. You can see their first transformation (6 years ago!) here.

The curtains are also a new addition to the space. We have nice blinds in this house and so I was in no rush for window coverings but it’s incredible how much a layer of fabric can change a room. It adds to that cozy luxe feel we all crave this time of year. As I was unable to find curtains on short notice to fit the windows I ended up making these too. They’re pretty simple and I used inexpensive rods but splashed out on the new brass hanging rings and I’m so glad I did.

I’m loving this room refreshed for the season, it’s making the loss of summer a bit of a softer blow. We had an incredible one – my sister got married. I turned 40 and my husband had surgery on his arm! It was sort of a whirlwind and this homebody is ready for some downtime. It’s nice to have a fresh and cozy space to enjoy some quiet.

Thanks for joining me on tour and thanks to The Flower Hut here in Fort St John for supplying me with these gorgeous blooms! I always find something a little unique when I go there and right now I’m loving these pink berries – they’re helping me transition from our summer greenery.

Thanks Virginia!
Heather your table is beautiful and I love all your vintage touches everywhere. That brass candleholder is so beautiful. Great job!
I love that candleholder! I was just sorry I didnβt have enough candles to go around π oh well, it stands alone I think.
So beautiful! You had me at vintage π
Hugs, Jamie
Thanks Jamie π
Such beautiful, rich colors! That flower bouquet is gorgeous!
thank you!
Ahhhh, we had snow this week too here in northern AB! Thankfully it’s melting away as well, though there’s more in the forecast this weekend.
Love the rich and moody colours you worked into your decor! Everything feels so cozy! Just what you need to make it through this crazy Fall weather!
Yeah, I donβt think fall is going to be a thing for us. Winter is here already.
Fun to see your home, Heather! Thanks for the tour;)
Thanks Lora!
I LOVE that you just whipped up a chair recovering (or 2) a table runner and curtains!!!! Like, no big D! Okay, I need your help with my porch rocking chair recover, not sure if you noticed but I just plopped a throw rug on the seat… ya, that’s the extent of my mad skills re furniture recovering! hahaha I LOVE all of the brass, and the rich green all of your beautiful vintage touches are so perfect together and framed perfectly with that CABINET (that I want to dig around in) and the typewriter – that I’m actually the same colour of right now… cause I want to shop your whole home!!!!! Beautiful my friend!!!
Right? And days behind schedule due to hubβs broken wing. No wonder I was in a flap over getting it done π How perfect is it that the typewriterβs colour is on trend? I can hardly stand how well it works with the rest of the items. Thanks for popping by and I would love to hear more about your chair! Insta me pics of the seat π
I WILL – don’t think I wont! π
Such a lovely tour- you are so good at mixing colors- just fab! xo
Youβre so sweet! Thank you π
What a lovely fall space!
Just gorgeous Heather! I love all your vintage touches!
Love it Heather! Your chairs look amazing- and I am totally jealous of that and the “sewing up a runner”. The colours you picked are so good with the vintage brass- it all looks fabulous!
Ha, thanks! I’m not a great seamstress but a runner – it is one of the simplest things to make (at least the type I make with no lining and no curves π )
Beautiful. I like the frosted glasses with gold leafs. Iβm 54 year and my parents had these in the bar when we were growing up. Memories….
I believe my brother has them now.
they’re perfect for fall – or anytime!
It’s really pretty Heather…warm and welcoming is the way it made me feel. Nicely done!! And, I am crushing on your candle holders – those babies are gorgeous!
Thanks Sheila!
What a great fall dining room. You’ve got some great pieces on the table, and I’d love to get a better view of a few of them π
