After Christmas all of Nate’s new toys ended up in a laundry basket. Great right? WRONG! He had sets of toys that he couldn’t play with because they got all jumbled up. He had a set of Lego’s in there, a Safari set of animals and his trains. All were great presents that he loved to play with but how do you play Lego’s when there are lions and tigers all mixed in? It’s hard for a two year old to realize he has to dig out the pieces before he starts to play.
The trick is cheap, dollar store Zippered Mesh Laundry Bags. You can also find them in packs of 4 on Amazon. The type that you’d use to wash say…pantyhose if you were the kind of person who likes to wear torture devices.

The beauty of the bags is that kids can see what’s inside before dumping out the whole big laundry basket. It’s easy for them to unzip and get at their toys and it’s easy for us to say ‘clean up your lego before you open another bag!’
So far, this has been working really well. I put all the individual bags into his toy bin and he’s having loads of fun playing with his new toys! These were $2.50 ea at the dollar store.
TADA! It’s simple, cheap and it WORKS!
I hope this simple organizing tip helps you with your after Christmas toy clutter – it really helped us and it helps teach organization to kids too. Toy clutter can be really overwhelming to little people (and moms!) and this simple hack is the answer.
Good tip. I use one of those bags for beach toys, actually. It holds all their buckets & shovels and allows the sand to fall right out. Score.
oh that’s a great use for these mesh baggies!
Me likey! I know some kids who could use some of those! GREAT TIP!
Thanks Sami!
Genius.
Off to the dollar store I go. This is a great tip
I hope it works for you!
Oooh, I could chocolate molds, chocolates bars and candy melts in these too! 😀 😀
I forgot the words “put my”! ACK!
Great tip, thanks, I will be swinging by a dollar store very soon.
I also love your comment about the pantyhose.
OMG, you are so smart! 🙂 That’s a fabulous idea and I’m going to take it one step further and tell my kids if all the toys in one category don’t fit into the bag then some have to be thrown or given away! HA! You rock sister!
Funny re pantyhose. I can’t remember the last time I’ve worn a pair.
