Last May I shared how I’ve decorated my home with plants in a tour of my planty corner. Let’s refresh our memories of that plant styling and look back at it shall we? (shown below.)

Oh so much has changed! First of all – some of these poor plants have died. Some of them have been cut and propagated and look completely different now, and some of them have grown HUGE. So huge that they’ve had to move. Something I’ve learned over the time I’ve had my plants is that plant styling never ends. They grow and change and I move them around a lot which is something I really enjoy. I’m not the sort to line up a row of white pots and be done. For me, change and plants go hand in hand and that’s half the beauty of them, especially over the last year where it seemed like time marched on and nothing changed. The plants sure changed! I’ve also purchased a few new plants to decorate the house with too because of course I did.

Let’s have a look at the space as it sits today. For one, the lighting is completely different so we’ve lost the caramel colour of the wood cabinet in these photos. No sunshine beaming in the windows today. But I hope this conveys just how much an indoor garden can change in a year’s time! Such a big difference. Let’s get into what’s going on with the plants!
Plants that have died:
African Violets x 2
Green Fittonia (Nerve Plant) – I will replace this plant someday. I really liked it!
Pilea Spruceana (Friendship Plant)

New Plants:
Philodendron Brasil
Philodendron Paraiso Verde
Begonia Maculata Wightii
Scindapsus Pictus Silvery Ann

Plants that Moved Out
Goldfish Vine – I might put this one outside for the summer.
Tri Colour Tradescantia – it’s in the bottom of the hibiscus tree pot now.
Philodendron Micans – it’s on the far side of the mantel.
Monstera Thai Constellation – see before and after shots below!
You may notice I moved my Goddess head planter (holding begonia medora) to the mantel. It’s not out of the space completely but I’m not sure how I feel about it – I miss it in this vignette! Time will tell but I might put it back.

Plants that Moved In
Snake Plant (it’s sitting on the floor in the grouping to the left of the cabinet.)
Marble Queen Pothos – a propagation of my larger plant.
Monstera Adonsonii – on the floor to the left of the cabinet and also in the round blue pot on the wall.
Monstera Peru (it’s in the spot where the Goddess head planter was.)

One of the plants I’m most proud of, and that has grown a lot is my Philodendron Splendid. I propagated this using the air-layering method which works wonders for velvety philos. This plant really has changed so much. In the original photo up top you can see it in the center – 2 velvety heart shaped leaves. It grew like a champ, nice and tall but it was looking a little sparse. Propagating allowed me to take a cutting of the largest leaves which is what you see here now – it’s grown to the height of the original mother plant already but the leaves are much larger. It also allowed me to trade and sell a couple of cuttings which helps me build my collection for less money because if you hadn’t noticed lately – plants are getting very expensive!

The Raphidophora Tetrasperma is another one that grew tall and lanky. I cut it way back and propagated it and I’m loving how it’s looking. I still have the original mother plant and a bunch more cuttings – they are slow to grow after cutting but the goal is to build a huge, bushy plant that will take up a corner.
The biggest change has been in my Thai Constellation Monstera. That plant has gotten HUGE! It’s moved several times since it was styled into the original plant decor and it now lives opposite the plant corner in it’s very own corner. I can’t wait to see how gigantic it will get!
The easy care Monstera Deliciosa has grown a lot too but it’s leaves don’t get quite as large. Right now, it’s the perfect size for the spot it’s in and as I have it lifted up on some crocks, I can lower it to the floor if needed. Here’s an overall view of the room. With plants, nothing stays the same for long. We are in spring right now and this is a western facing window so as the light becomes stronger and more intense over the summer I will move the calathea and stromanthe to the other side of the room. All in all I’m so thrilled with my houseplant corner (haha I say that like there aren’t plants ALL over the rest of the house!) and enjoy plant styling so much. I hope you’ve enjoyed this update!
