I made a crazy Chocolate Cake yesterday (I’ll blog about that later in the week) and made this strawberry sauce to go with it. This strawberry sauce is so versatile you’ll never need another recipe ever. Pour it on ice cream, pancakes, waffles, pound cake or chocolate mousse. Layer it in a trifle or use it to fill cupcakes. It was seriously delicious…so much so that I caught myself cleaning out the sauce boat with my finger to get the last bits out!
The Only Strawberry Sauce You’ll Ever Need
It’s super easy to make too – take some fresh summer berries. Put em in a pot with your spice and syrup and let em cook. Mash and you’re done!
Easy Strawberry Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3 cups diced strawberries
- 1/3 cup maple syrup (not cheap pancake syrup made from chemicals….buy the real stuff)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon or nutmeg
- 1tbsp finely grated lemon or orange zest (optional)
Method:
Place all ingredients in a sauce pan and bring to a simmer, stirring fairly often. Let cook until berries are soft (about 10 min). Remove from heat. I like to keep some texture to the sauce so I just mashed it up a bit with a fork until I felt it was ‘right’. You could wiz it with an immersion blender if you wanted a smooth sauce. Serve it hot or let it cool..it’s up to you. Leftovers (what!) can be kept in a sealed container in the fridge for a couple days.
This looks so good, Heather!! I will really be making this soon.
it was super easy and berries are coming into season. LOVE summer berries!
oooo I love strawberries! Yum! thanks for sharing, I stumbled….
I’ll definitely be making this. I love fruit sauces!
Looks absolutely delish! I’ll make it a point to purchase strawberries tomorrow at the store!
Oooh my daughter loves anything strawberry and this sounds so good!
I’m already hungry and you’re tempting me with strawberry sauce. Mmmm… yummy! I need some right now to have with some banana, chocolate muffins that Amber made. 🙂
I LOVE strawberries! I’ll have to make some of this for myself. The other people I live with get mad if I even sprinkle some sugar on the berries to get them juicier for shortcake. They just like fruit pieces – bor-ing.
