First – I want to say this isn’t a sponsored post and the good folks at Spolumbo’s have not paid me to praise them. I just honestly love their product. Although, if they wanted to throw buckets of money (or sausage) at me I’d gladly take it…..now onto the post.
This has to be the easiest meal I’ve ever made in the crock pot. It really couldn’t be easier and I really enjoyed the texture of the cabbage and sausages after they were cooked all day. We’re lucky here in Calgary that we can get Spolumbo’s sausages. The chicken & apple are my personal favorite because they are so lean and flavorful. I won’t usually eat sausages because the texture weirds me out and I always get little bits of gristle and that just gags me…..Spolumbo’s never have gristle. They are high quality and super tasty so if you’re in Calgary too, you must pick some up. You can get them fresh at Co-Op Grocery stores or at the Spolumbo’s deli.
Here is my recipe:
- 1 onion sliced
- 1 cabbage sliced
- 1 large can diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup apple juice (I added this because I was using chicken & apple sausages…you could omit if you used a conflicting flavor sausage.)
- 1tsp celery salt
- 1tsp black pepper
- 4 to 6 large sausages
- Rice – enough for each person to have a serving
Layer ingredients into your crock pot in the order I have them listed above except the rice. Cook on low all day or on high for 4-6 hours. When dinner hour hits, cook your rice according to the usual method and serve on the side.
If you’re not a fan of rice, perogies would be especially good too!
